Paperworld’s complementary programme: a wide variety of inspiration for commerce and industry
From 27 to 30 January 2018, Paperworld will introduce new perspectives on the future of the paper, office supplies and stationery sector. In a comprehensive complementary programme, the largest paper, office supplies and stationery trade fair will be presenting to its visitors in Frankfurt am Main the innovations for tomorrow’s workplace ('visionary office') and the trends in paper and stationery products for private use ('stationery trends').
The clear structuring of Paperworld into the two product areas, 'visionary office' with commercial office supplies and equipment, and 'stationery trends' with products relating to school, giving, writing and lifestyle, will make it easier for trade visitors to orientate themselves around the eight hall floors and the more than 1,500 exhibitors. The structure and content design of the complementary programme are also based around this. The Paperworld events offer added value for wholesalers, retailers and specialist dealers, book retailers, online and mail order businesses, as well as commercial buyers for large companies. "We are investing in a very varied, high-quality supplementary programme, in order to establish Paperworld’s position as a networking and training platform, and also to give the sector new impulses and bring supply and demand even closer together", says Michael Reichhold, Director of Paperworld. On all four days of the fair, visitors will experience exciting special presentations, trend-orientated events, specialist lectures and high-calibre awards ceremonies.
Participation in the complementary programme is at no extra charge (because it’s already included in the cost of the ticket). The digital events calendar, available from the end of October on the Paperworld website, provides a valuable service. Here visitors will be able to find all the events at a glance and put together their own personal programme to make efficient use of their visit to the fair.
The visionary office: events and information about the modern office workplace
The 'visionary office' area showcases product segments that make the workplace of tomorrow into a visionary office. Here you will find a selection of products, unparalleled in the world, which includes office appliances and furniture, organisational resources and presentation aids, office stationery, writing and drawing tools, computer and printer accessories, and recycled printer supplies. This will be supplemented with a high-calibre complementary programme.
After its successful premiere last year, the Future Office special show will begin its next round in Hall 3.0, C71, and this time the main theme will be health. Those who want to experience healthy aspects of office work, should first make themselves aware of the bad factors in everyday office life. The starting point of the show, therefore, is the 'Bad Office', where all aspects of an unhealthy office atmosphere prevail. From here, visitors will negotiate a course through the 'Healthy Office', which will demonstrate optimum working conditions. The planning and design of the Office of the Future is being undertaken by the internationally known architect André Schmidt from the Berlin firm, Matter, on behalf of Messe Frankfurt. The accompanying lecture programme has additional main themes: at the weekend the topics are focused on the retail trade; the Monday and Tuesday are being organised by the prestigious architects’ platform, World-Architects, with specialist lectures for architects and facility managers.
A new feature for 2018 is an additional presentation space within the special show, in which brand manufacturers will be showcasing their range of products relating to acoustics, light, air, hygiene, ergonomics, sustainability, furnishing and office supplies. Companies such as Casio Europe GmbH, Durable Hunke & Jochheim GmbH & Co. KG, Holtz Office Support GmbH, Jakob Maul GmbH, Legamaster GmbH, Novus Dahle GmbH & Co. KG, Pelikan Vertriebsgesellschaft mbh & Co. KG, Sigel GmbH and Tesa SE, will all be there.
In the four-day 'Remcon Seminars' in Hall 6.0, all visitors to the Remanexpo product area will be able to find out about the latest developments in the area of recycled printer supplies and hard copy components. The conference is free of charge and the lectures will be delivered in English. The prestigious Recycler Awards will also be presented to chosen industry representatives in the conference area. The conference and the awards ceremony are being organised by Paperworld, in cooperation with 'The Recycler' trade journal.
On the Sustainable Office Day on Tuesday 30 January 2018, it is all about the theme of sustainability. In lectures and discussion panels, experts will provide insights into the latest developments in the 'sustainable office world' and address the challenges of eco-fair procurement. The themed day is open to all visitors to the fair and will take place in the Europa conference room (entrance in the foyer of Hall 4.0).
In addition, Paperworld’s Business Matchmaking Programme is being offered again in 2018. Even before the fair begins, exhibitors and visitors will be able to target specific contacts and initiate potential business relationships, so that their visit to the fair can be structured more successfully and effectively. The Business Matchmaking service is available for use from October onwards and every trade visitor with a valid ticket has access to it on the Paperworld website.
The stationery trends: special shows and trends supply fresh lifestyle ideas
German and international exhibitors, showcasing paper and stationery products for private use, will present their new ideas, designs and lifestyle product ranges for the coming season in Paperworld’s visionary trends area. In addition to the latest on-trend stationery products and gift articles – that is, products related to giving, gift-wrapping and celebrating, as well as high-quality writing instruments, bags, accessories and greetings cards – visitors will also find a large number of events on the complementary programme.
The Trend Show in the foyer between Halls 5.1 and 6.1 will showcase trends for the 2018/19 season and provide retailers with ideas for putting together their product ranges and designing their retail shops. At the same time, the industry will also be able to benefit from valuable innovations and the latest design trends for developing their products. On behalf of Messe Frankfurt, designers from the style studio bora.herke.palmisano are picking up on trends in fashion, architecture and art and adapting them for the paper, office supplies and stationery products world. For 'visionary office' the designers have put together ideas for the 'Work + Challenge' trend. 'Stationery trends' is illustrated by two style worlds, 'Minimal + Excellent' and 'Spirit + Ambition'. The three trend worlds will each be presented to visitors in greater detail in informative guided tours and lectures, at 11.00 and 15.00 from 27 to 29 January, and at 11.00 on 30 January.
The special show, Mr. Books & Mrs. Paper in Hall 5.1, E11, is aimed at book sellers and retailers who would like to put books, stationery, and writing products (so-called non-book articles) together skilfully. The way that the different products are arranged together according to different main themes will show retail shops how to display their ranges at the point of sale, in order to appeal to the emotions, and how to generate incentives with additional product ranges. Curator Angelika Niestrath will be taking tours around the special show several times a day and talking about the latest trends in the book trade.
In the BMWi promotional area (Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy – BMWi)) in Hall 6.1, D80, young start-up companies will showcase what they have to offer in terms of fresh ideas and unconventional products. The area will be an inspiring source of information, helping visitors to find out about new and trendsetting product ideas in the paper, office supplies and stationery sector. The innovations platform is a valuable launch-aid for young start-up companies because it is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy.
The Greetings Card Competence Centre in Hall 5.1, C81, in collaboration with the Working Group of Greeting Card Manufacturers and Publishers (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Gruß- und Glückwunschkarten - AVG) will showcase all there is to know about greetings cards. The Café Card is also here with a special exhibition of the ten best designs for greetings cards, which were chosen by an expert panel in the greetings cards competition. All in all, more than 500 cards were entered into the competition for the coveted prize. During the fair, visitors will be able to vote for their favourite greetings card and choose the winner of the Card Award. The awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday, 30 January 2018.
The gift wrapping show, Wrap Up!, in Hall 5.1, C100, will show visitors tips and tricks for wrapping gifts quickly and attractively. Several times a day, gift wrapping expert Ulla Büning will demonstrate step by step how, even in a retail shop, unique presents can be created with relatively little effort.
The Oriental Culture exhibition will showcase a piece of the Orient with sophisticated arts & crafts products that combine traditional design and Far Eastern features. It will also showcase high-quality paper, office supplies and stationery items, such as bookmarks, papers and pens. The special show will be located in Hall 5.1 on stands A21, B04 and C09, and is being staged in conjunction with Art Exhibitions China.

In the course of the fair, the awards given in Hall 3.0, C51, include Product of the Year, Industry Face of the Year, Specialist Retailer of the Year, and the ISPA Award (product award).
